Snakes drop from faucet into tub during Florida woman's bath

An Ocean Ridge, Florida woman was in her bathtub when a pair of rat snakes plunged out of her faucet and into the water below.
"I was on the computer, and I hear her screaming, like really bad, like something's wrong. I thought she got trapped and the water was too hot or something," said her boyfriend Bryan Litowich. Litowich ran into the bathroom of his Ocean Ridge home, and found his girlfriend, Elena Trowell, was not alone in the bathtub. She was terrified.
It may seem strange, but it's not impossible. Experts say they've seen all kinds of creatures creep into peoples homes.
Trowell told her boyfriend the snakes came out of the faucet.
"She saw like a shadow drop, I guess, and then later she saw it swimming toward her," said Litowich.
After removing the first snake, Litowich returned to the tub to find a second, bigger snake swimming around.
The couple has since bought an aquarium, and decided to keep the snakes as pets.
"Given the coloration, the shape of the head, the body size, and where the animal was found tells me that it was a rat snake. It's actually a pretty common snake species," said Mark Halverson of the Palm Beach Zoo.
Halverson says it's not likely the snake came through the pipes, as it would be difficult to survive such a trip. They say the drain or the outflow may have been a more likely destination.
"Snakes look for a dark place to go. A place that they feel comfortable," said Halverson. "Something that looks like a cave would be great, and drain lines look like that, so they wanna go through them and travel up to wherever they need to go, and sometimes it might actually be someone's bathtub!"
